Working From The Road

I have been traveling a bit the last couple weeks trying to get a much needed break from the daily grind. Unfortunately that does not always happen.

While on the road (literally) these last two trips, I have been struggling with keeping clients happy and keeping my sanity. I am not sure where or how the month long travel notifications (sent prior to my travels) went wrong or where the misunderstanding was. I try to let my clients know where I will be and when and let them know I will not be working, but sometimes that does not seem to matter. Today was a national holiday, and I put in a full days work. No BBQ or golf here, not me. Oh, and I mowed my lawn too.

For these two upcoming road trips I am going to try and not work while on the road, period. Family. Fun. Music. That's it. Maybe check my email a few times!

It's a big step for me not bringing a laptop with me, along with my work drives, etc, but I still have my iPad and iPhone - which is all I need to keep the JEG ship moving full steam ahead while trying to enjoy some much deserved down time.

Finding that balance has always been a struggle. I am addicted email. I am addicted to always keeping busy. My mind never stops. I am always running through my books, through my invoices, through my projects, through design ideas.

This weekend at SPAC in Saratoga Springs, NY, I need to just be and not run through anything and let the music run through me. Catching the 3-Night PHISH run will be a perfect way to do it!

Side note: Last night I was in Bangor, Maine at my 95th PHISH show and they played my favorite tune: Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001) - Have a listen! (This one is from 8/18/12 Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, San Francisco CA)

Oh yeah, Happy Independence Day!
